Solstice Maine Coon color & trait calculator

Advanced genetic probability matrix & carrier logic engine

Welcome to our interactive breeding and color projection tool. Designed specifically for the intricate bloodlines of the Maine Coon breed, this calculator allows fellow breeders and enthusiastic future owners to visualize potential litter phenotypes based on parental genetics. By applying established feline inheritance matrices, you can map out visual traits and official EMS codes for your upcoming litters.

Scope parameters: This engine is engineered exclusively for traditional and polydactyl Maine Coons. Recessive color points, chocolate, fawn, and cinnamon modifications are not supported. While our system natively parses eye color, polydactyl layout metrics, and coat lengths, these are currently kept descriptive and do not alter color calculations.

Understanding feline color inheritance

The dominant gene rule: Traits like silver and gold are dominant modifiers. A kitten only needs to inherit one copy of the gene from a single parent to display the trait visually. If neither parent is a visual silver or gold, it is genetically impossible for the offspring to express it.

The recessive gene rule: Dilution (the "lightening gene") is completely recessive. A kitten must inherit a copy from both parents to show a dilute color. Because carriers show no outward signs of dilution, dense-colored parents can surprise you with dilute kittens if the trait is hidden further back in their pedigrees.

3. White spotting distributions & tipping levels

White distribution ratios
  • Code 01 (Van): High white distribution. Only 1/8 of the body shows color, restricted entirely to patches on the head and tail.
  • Code 02 (Harlequin): Approximately 5/6 white, with distinct patches of color distributed across the body.
  • Code 03 (Bicolor): Balanced distribution, showing 1/3 to 1/2 white across the chest, face, and paws.
  • Code 09 (Unspecified white): Low-grade white spotting, typically presenting as localized white gloves, socks, or chest lockets.
Tabby & shading variations
  • Code 11 (Shaded): Clear silver undercoat where only the top 1/3 of the hair tip holds color pigment.
  • Code 12 (Shell / Chinchilla): High silver expression where only the extreme 1/8 tip of the hair holds dark pigment.
  • Code 21 (Unspecified tabby): Utilized when a cat displays agouti characteristics, but the specific pattern style cannot be definitively classified.
  • Code 22 (Classic tabby): The traditional, dense marbled or blotched swirl pattern running along the flanks.
  • Code 23 (Mackerel tabby): A narrow, continuous vertical stripe pattern resembling a fish skeleton.
  • Code 24 (Spotted tabby): Distinct, broken spots or rosettes running along the torso.
  • Code 25 (Ticked tabby): Minimal body striping; each individual hair shaft displays multiple bands of dark and light pigment.
